What is Going on Astrologically Right Now??

In the past three days I have heard "bad news" on personal and national level: death, terrible accidents, stock-market—and am wondering what is going on astologically that may be affecting us.

Dear Marilyn,

Great question. The answer is Pluto! Pluto left Sagittarius and entered Capricorn on January 25, then it went back into Sagittarius in June where it was stationary for a brief time. Now it is moving back toward Capricorn where it will stay until 2023. So, this is a big change. (Pluto moves very slowly.) Pluto rules death, birth, and transformation. It forces us to break down and surrender as it regenerates and creates new life. Throughout the year the intense optimism of Pluto in Sagittarius will battle with the realism of Pluto in Capricorn. So it makes sense that our economic problems are intensifying. Once Pluto is firmly entrenched in Capricorn beginning in December 2008, we will really see it at work. This will directly follow the U.S. presidential election in November 2008. Pluto impels us to focus as well as break down and regenerate. And Capricorn is all about facing reality and accepting limitations, so this will be a sobering time.
