Taurus is the second sign of the zodiac, symbolized by Aphrodite (known to the Romans as Venus), and its natural element is earth. Taurus carries the energy of physical, material, manifested substance. Taurians are interested in valuable goods, material possessions, art, money, and the market place. Generally strong, patient, and stable, Taurians are slow and move only after much consideration. Like Vincent Van Gogh, Taurians are deeply captivated by the beauty and the value of the natural world.

vangogh_246Watercolor by Philip GaligaArtsy and crafty, Taurians like to get her hands dirty making things and planting gardens. Taurus rules the neck and ears, and a classic Taurus physique is strong, sturdy, and muscular. Taurus people tend to be collectors and amazingly good with money. They often become involved in finance as well as antiques, fine arts, and horticulture.

Like the doubting Thomas of the Bible, a typical Taurus believes only what they perceive through their five senses, and they have a very hard time with metaphysical or spiritual thought that doesn’t relate to the present, manifested reality.

Because Taurus is very slow moving, and yes, at times, very stubborn, they may not take advice or prodding well at all. People with a lot of Taurus in their chart tend to avoid change and may live in the same house or stay in the same job for the majority of their lives. They also have a strong sense of what is “mine” and may be easily agitated if they have to share their stuff when they aren’t ready to do so.

When balanced, Taurus helps us appreciate the physical world and gives us the ability to produce tangible results from our efforts in the form of money, material goods, and lovely works of art, and gardens. Totally in tune with the laws of abundance, a Taurus can be endlessly resourceful and productive.

When unbalanced, Taurus impels us to be greedy because we feel like we never have enough. Our Taurian side can then become a scheming capitalist, concerned only with collecting and stockpiling material wealth. Taurians then fear anything that does not feed their deep need for material security and they lose touch with their other needs and emotions.

When the sun is in Taurus, expect to feel the need for material satisfaction. Depending on where Taurus is in your chart, you may either feel resourceful and abundant or possessive and insatiable.

Venus is the planetary ruler of both Taurus and Libra. The placement of Venus in the birth chart tells us not only about our relationships but also about how we are with our money and material possessions. For example, someone with Venus in Scorpio would tend to continually purge themselves of possessions, whereas, someone with Venus in Taurus would tend to be a non-stop collector.
