Barbara Damrosch Goes 100% Organic in Her Revised Garden Primer

Are you starting a garden for the first time and don't know where to start? Save yourself from some big mistakes by reading the comprehensive, down-to-earth one-volume gardening reference, "The Garden Primer," now 100% organic, by Barbara Damrosch. From composting to crop rotation to the best varieties of seeds for the climate you live in, Barbara touches on it all - she is clearly an expert, having worked professionally in the field of horticulture since 1977.
Barbara suggests that pepper seedlings need a really warm spot to get started and not to harden them unlike other seedlings. She cautions that tomato seedlings need lots of light so they don't get "leggy" and should be hardened in a protected (no frost) area two weeks before planting to avoid the initial shock of planting. Both of these summer favorites need a spot in the garden where there is plenty of heat and sun - perhaps even black plastic cover to keep the ground warm.
I came across "The Garden Primer" near the end of the season last year, and now I don't know what I did without it. This year I actually have a map of my garden thanks to the Primer, including areas that will be "interplanted" with other vegetables.

Pisces 2009 - The Movie Issue
Cinema Paradiso - My all-time favorite - it is a movie about life in a small town, the youthful need to escape, the ultimate joy of returning home, and the unending strength that you can feel by forming a deep bond with someone - I love it because it made me recognize the importance of personal relationships - I cry every time I see this movie!

These recordings feature Alicia Calles’s reminiscences about her own father—Natalia’s great-grandfather—General Plutarco Elías Calles, a revolutionary general who became president of Mexico in 1924. Today, he remains one of Mexico’s most controversial figures, illustrating both the idealism and injustices of the country’s history. (read more)

“Kathryn Blume is Al Gore on crack. With red hair. And a uterus.”
I’ve been called a lot of things in my years as an actor and activist: A quirky Sarah Jessica Parker. A commie pinko. A hopium toker. Adorable.
You’ve got to figure with reactions like that, you must at least be getting someone’s attention. The paradox of doing politically-oriented theater, which also strives to be high quality art, is that you’re trying to get someone’s attention without looking like you are. You’re trying to encourage your audience to be mindful of a relevant issue by telling a story so good, they won’t be consciously aware that you’re trying to teach them something.
