Movies That Changed Our Lives

stephteleen1_107Cinema Paradiso - My all-time favorite - it is a movie about life in a small town, the youthful need to escape, the ultimate joy of returning home, and the unending strength that you can feel by forming a deep bond with someone - I love it because it made me recognize the importance of personal relationships - I cry every time I see this movie!

Steph Teleen, Owner of Jakfish Active Maternity Clothing

kendra_100_100Mad Hot Ballroom - I simply enjoyed the spirit and the dance that the schools used to help students return to school after Sept 11. Even in the most trying times, even when my grief was most pronounced, music and movement made the difference. "Mad Hot Ballroom" reminded me of that.

Kendra Rickerby, VR Writer, High School English Teacher, and Co-owner of Compaňeros Café

kblume100_100My Dinner With Andre - I was in high school when I saw it, and I had no idea you could have such an exciting movie comprised of two guys just talking.  I didn't know that there was so much wild, experimental theater happening in the world and it also opened my eyes to a kind of intellectual rigor combined with a psycho-spiritual quest, which I never knew existed.

Kathy Blume, Actor, Writer, and Solo Performer

emily100_100Amores Perros - I watched it and then rewound my favorite scenes and re-watched it again and again and again. This movie touched me at the core and introduced me to the blossoming world of Mexican filmmakers and actors.
